Is the Food Industry Ready for the Next Generation of Nutrition Requirements?

Episode: S5 E3

In this podcast Anna and Danielle share the thinking they have done following a recent experience they had convening a cross-sector workshop (Spoon Guru: Exploring the Potential of Technology in NPM 2018 Implementation) and what it revealed about risk, growth and the future of food, health and digital ecosystems.

As part of her role at Spoon Guru, Danielle initiated the workshop to consider what the role of technology might be in the implementation of the 2018 nutrient profiling model. Stimulus was provided by Danielle and Maisie Rowland (Spoon Guru), Lewis Wallis (Campden BRI) and Hannah Skeggs (IGD); with Anna facilitating the session. Attendees were leaders from right across the food system including retailers, manufacturers, food service, academics, government representatives from DHSC, charities and technology experts.

With food, health and digital ecosystems being increasingly interconnected, nutrition capability may become either a source of competitive advantage or a growing source of risk.

The future challenge isn’t simply understanding nutrition science. It’s understanding how nutrition science interacts with technology, regulation, commercial realities and implementation.

Listen to Anna and Danielle outline:

  • Convergence of food, health, and digital ecosystems
  • Organisational readiness and capability building
  • Regulatory scrutiny and market expectations
  • Impact of AI, wearables, and personalised nutrition
  • Cross-sector collaboration and running a solution-focused workshop
  • Risks and opportunities in food innovation
  • Strategic leadership in nutrition and digital health
